Human Cares For Cars

Road safety signs have been all over the place. Wherever we go, whether streets or highways, there are these signage that keep on giving us warning and making our trip free from accidents. Some says that accidents on the roads are hardly to predict since what we may not expect can be part of our trip due to others fault. However, the thing is that prevention is better than any corrective measures after road trouble has occurred through our own simple car inspections.

Cars are like toys for few, and necessity for many because of the convenience that it always provides as a mode of transportation especially for the whole family. From simple check up of the engine to a complex repair of the auto parts, car should also be provided with proper care and attention.

Though it may need enough budgets for maintenance, rest assured if we seek guidance from the experts which specialize for Car Maintenance. However, simple procedures may do as long as we can provide the needed service for our cars.

Simple check-ups or inspections like monitoring gas before having a trip, checking the battery, tires, the lights, and the engine are usual routines that anyone can do. As long as these things can be done, expect a hassle-free and safety trip for all. But, not all the time! It is still recommendable to keep in mind periodic mechanical check ups of the car and its parts for the long run sustainability of the value and usage of it.

Mechanical check ups, especially when engine stalling, hard starting or other related symptoms are signaling trouble for the engine , are in need. Regular tire inspection is also a great way of preventive measure to easily spot damage, unusual wear or under inflation that can lead to tire failure. Aside from the abovementioned parts, cooling system of the car is a threat for breakdown as it needs seasonal checks and maintenance. Lastly, pay close attention to the gas gauge and keep it a habit to keep the tank half full at all times as it safeguards against condensation in the tank and can prevent engine from stalling.

Though simple as they may seem to do, some forget them to take part in the daily routine of the trip. Vehicle inspections overlook by many due to heavy reliance on the service that many auto mechanic shops provide for them when the service are at stake. However, the best way to maintain the value of cars for years is through simple yet proper caring and providing necessary maintenance of its parts.

V8 Cars – Some Wonderful History of the Mighty V8 Automotive Engine

Have you read the latest Wheel’s magazine? The January 2010 edition has a wonderful section on the wonderful history of the V8 engine that we know and love today. I will share some of the hi-lights from the magazine as well as my own personal comments, so read on…

The automotive vee-eight as we know it had its birth with our friend Henry Ford with the arrival of the ‘L-Head’ flat head vee eight of 1932. We must remember that he was not responsible for inventing the 8 cylinder engine in the V format as we know and love. But he was responsible for ensuring that it was available to the masses, ie the likes of you and me! It was pretty basic and simple, no complicated overhead valves or the like, hence the term ‘flathead’.

A company called Duesenberg, back in the 20’s had a straight 8 cylinder engine and this was probably the first mass produced 8 cylinder automotive engine (it also had fancy overhead cams and multi-valves!). Unfortunately the company did not stand the test of time.

Some suggest that the longest ‘living’ V8 engine is the 6.75 litre V8 belonging to our British friends Roll-Royce and Bentley. Based on an American design it was released in the 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud (as a 6.2 litre with OHV and 90 degrees V angle). Later it was enlarged to its current size of 6.75 litres and continues in production today inspiring Bentleys.

Of course technology has allowed the V8 to develop just like all things automotive and we now have every V8 arrangement possible across the automotive spectrum. Usually only limited by our imagination (and our wallet). Turbocharging/supercharging, direct injection, mulit-variable valve technology along with massaging of the engine ancillaries are all available on your Ferrari down to your humble home grown Falcon or Commodore.

All of this of course means that you can be kind to the environment and own a V8. I drive 350K’s to my daughters farm from Kwinana south of Perth and get better than 11l/100kms cruising at 110 with the safety of better braking and handling and the ability to safely overtake slower vehicles. So it is V8’s til 2028 at least. Enjoy your V8!

5 Ways Auto Navigation Systems and GPS Technology Improve Lives

Global positioning technology is used in most of today’s GPS and auto navigation systems. The truth of the matter is that this technology while once reserved for the wealthy is now trickling into mainstream America. We are seeing this technology in cell phones in order to assist with 911 calls. We are seeing this technology in automobiles in order to track and possibly retrieve them if they are stolen. We are also seeing this technology used to help lost animals find their way back to the homes of their families. The truth of the matter is that there are many ways in which GPS technology is currently making our lives easier.

Below you will find a great number of uses for GPS and auto navigation system technology that currently exist. Even more amazing is the fact that new discoveries for these technologies are being made every day and over time there will be an even greater variety of methods to utilize this technology for the benefit of society.

1) Keep track of teens and children by using services such as uLocate Communications. This technology allows you to track members of your family by their cell phones. With the click of a button on your cell phone or simply tracking from home via the Internet you can find all members of your family that are carrying their cell phones. The benefits of this feature to your peace of mind alone are well worth the monthly subscription fee, which can be as low of $4 a month depending on which service you choose.

2) Keeping track of the elderly. This is especially useful if you have a loved one that suffers from Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia. Technologies are improving continuously and will hopefully reach a point very soon where ID bracelets much like the medic alert bracelets will allow GPS tracking that is even more reliable for the elderly. The relief of knowing that you can find your loved one even if he or she has wondered off and forgotten how to get home is something that you really can’t put a price tag on.

3) Lost pets. I mentioned this earlier but it is worth repeating. The technology exists to have your pets implanted with chips or even to have chips placed in collars that allow you to readily locate your precious pet without spending endless hours of searching and whistling. The real beauty of this is that you won’t have to spend hours comforting sad children; you can take them to the computer and let them help you track Fido.

4) Finding shortcuts along your route to work, job interviews, important meetings, conventions, and personal appointments. This is great if you are running into a time crunch or worse need an alternate route as the result of a traffic jam or road closure.

5) GPS technology allows security and safety in many cars that utilize On Star technology as well. This technology cannot only track the location of your car but also be used to call for help in emergency situations. This device is activated by the push of a button and can even be used by small children in emergency situations.

There are many great ways that GPS and auto navigation systems and technology are being used each and every day to improve our lives and provide peace of mind. The methods mentioned above are simply icing on the cake.
